ACID ATTACKS ON GIRLS: FILTHY FACE OF MANHOOD

“ACID ATTACK” if you enter these words in Google, Google we say “Acid throwing, also called an acid attack, is a form of violent assault defined as the act of throwing acid or a similarly corrosive substance onto the body of another with the intention to disfigure, maim, torture, or kill.”

If you go by the words it’s simply throwing acid on someone but there is more to it. Let’s take an example of “Preeti Rathi” A beautiful life was waiting for this bright student nursing student, Preeti Rathi, when she got the selection letter of short service commission in the military nursing service. But destiny has some other plans for her. Preeti was supposed to join  naval hospital in Colaba, Mumbai, on May 15. On May 2, Preeti along with her father, uncle and aunt, reached Bandra station, Mumbai. It was then when an unidentified man, with his face half covered, threw acid on Preeti's face and fled.

This attack apart from giving unbearable pain, not only  damaged her eyes, infected her kidneys but the acid also entered her esophagus, windpipe, and trachea. After fighting this unbearable pain, Preeti succumbed to her injuries and lost the battle of her life.

According to e Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), a London-based charity, tentatively estimates that some 1,000 acid attacks occur every year in India. However, in the absence of official statistics, campaigners put the true figure even higher: at roughly 400 every month. These numbers are shocking.

Acid attacks in India have ravaged the lives of thousands of young women whose only fault was that they repudiated marriage proposals, rejected sexual advances from men they didn’t fancy, or were caught in the crossfire of domestic disputes. So which means if you ask a girl out and if she denies you proposal you throw acid at her thinking you can be mine you can’t be anyone’s. This thinking of men is filthy and pathetic. If you love someone you should be doing anything in your power to make that person happy how someone can even imagine doing something like this with only motto to establish your men hood

In India where we worship goddesses like Kaali, Amba, Durga, Saraswati and Santoshi. Where our religious dictates us to treat every women with utmost respect. Every Acid attack ever happened in India is a slap on our heritage and our cultural values.

India's top court has ruled that authorities must regulate the sale of acid. The Supreme Court's ruling on July 16, 2013 comes after an incident in which four sisters suffered severe burns after being attacked with acid by two men on a motorbike. Acid which is designed to clean rusted tools is often used in the attacks can be bought across the counter. But the judges said the buyer of such acids should in future have to provide a photo identity card to any retailer when they make a purchase. The retailers must register the name and address of the buyer.[77] In 2013, section 326 A of Indian Penal Code was enacted by the Indian Parliament to ensure enhanced punishment for acid throwing.

Government is taking steps which are necessary but as a society we also have to take steps we must treat women with respect and we must socially accept Acid attack victims. It is not a change which can be done in a single day. We are here talking about changing mentality of Indian men from the core. As long as I can see there is no immediate solution for this problem but I have faith in my society and we will bring this kind of assault to extinction one day.

And please don’t forget to share your views with me on this topic.
